The Year 7 French trip has been an incredible journey, filled with enriching experiences that allowed pupils to immerse themselves in French culture and history while practicing their language skills.
Immersive Learning
The trip began with a visit to the Arromanches 360 cinema, where pupils watched a powerful film about the D-Day landings. This was followed by a visit to the D-Day Beach, where they could reflect on the historical significance of the events that took place there.
Building Courage and Teamwork
Next, the pupils explored William the Conqueror’s castle in Falaise, delving into the medieval history of the region. The morning was filled with excitement as they tackled a high ropes course, testing their courage and teamwork skills.
Using Language Skills in a Real World Setting
The group then visited the charming town of Honfleur and the Satie Museum, where they learned about the life and works of the composer Erik Satie. The afternoon was spent in Bayeux, where they marvelled at the Bayeux Tapestry and the stunning Bayeux Cathedral. The day concluded with a delightful meal at a local French restaurant, where pupils had the opportunity to practice their French in a real-world setting.
The trip continued with a visit to the Basilica of Saint Thérèse in Lisieux, celebrating the hundredth anniversary of her canonisation. Pupils learned about the symbol of the pelican, representing protection, sacrifice, care, and transformation. The day ended with a visit to the town hall in Lisieux, where they met a representative of the mayor’s team and gained insights into the town’s history and governance.
This trip has been a wonderful experience for all involved, providing a unique opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of French culture and history while honing their language skills.
