We are delighted to announce the appointment of Benjamin Evans, currently Deputy Head (Academic) at Wellington College as the new Head at King’s College. He will commence his tenure in September 2026.
Michael Sloan, our current Headmaster, will be taking up the role of Headmaster at Bedford School after four highly successful years leading the school.
Benjamin brings a wealth of experience, having joined Wellington College after six years in Australia as Director of Teaching and Learning at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide. He is a formidable intellect and an energetic, caring leader.
Having previously taught at Oundle, Shrewsbury, and Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, Benjamin is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and gained his degree from Durham and a PGCE from Cambridge. He has been a member of the senior leadership team across several prestigious schools.
Benjamin believes a school should be a joyful place, where pupils feel a true sense of belonging, and we are confident that he will feel instantly at home at King’s. Benjamin recognises the value of the King’s ‘one school’ journey from ages 2-18 and is looking forward to working closely with Heidi Berry, Head of our thriving Prep School.
Outside of his professional achievements, he is also an accomplished musician and keen sportsman. Benjamin will be joined at King’s by his wife Victoria.
Benjamin commented on his appointment:
“It is a great honour to become Head of this wonderful school from September. I have received the warmest of welcomes and have been most impressed by the pupils. They have a palpable sense of pride in the school, where the culture is one of ambition and purpose. King’s commitment to holistic education was evident, and I believe the educational experience enjoyed at a ‘through’ school is unmatched. We will ensure King’s is a distinctive and determinably successful school going forwards. The foundations are well set, and I look forward to leading the College to its sesquicentenary year in 2030, and beyond. Fortis et fidelis”.
Michael Sloan commented:
“Council has made a wise and thoughtful decision in appointing Ben Evans as the next Headmaster of King’s College. Ben brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to the values that make King’s so special. I look forward to working closely with him over the next two terms to ensure a smooth and positive transition. I am confident that under his leadership, the school will continue to thrive and build on its many strengths.”
Heidi Berry commented:
“I am excited to begin working with Ben over the coming months as we ensure the continued success of King’s together.”
Throughout the remainder of the academic year, under Michael’s leadership, the team will work with Benjamin to ensure a seamless transition.
