King’s College Taunton is celebrating an impressive set of GCSE results, underpinned by exceptional pupil progress that saw this year’s cohort significantly outperform expectations.
Pupils achieved a value-added score of +0.5 meaning they collectively performed significantly above expectations, while also securing 43% of grades at 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A) and 97% at grades 9-4 (equivalent to A*-C). Within the top half of the year group the proportion of grades achieved at 9-7 rose to 70%, demonstrating the strength of academic achievement at the very highest level.
These outcomes reflect the school’s commitment to helping every pupil fulfil their potential. Through personalised teaching, strong pastoral care and a wealth of opportunities beyond the classroom, King’s nurtures confidence, ambition and academic growth.
A number of pupils achieved exceptional results, Chris B secured nine grade 9s, while Sophie R achieved eight grade 9s. Chris, Sophie, Francesca RW, Maddie R, Roger C, Lucy S, Emma S, Ffion K, Edith M, Erin T and Natasha D all achieved seven or more grades at 9 or 8 (A* equivalent) an outstanding accomplishment and testament to their hard work and dedication.
Seven pupils achieved all their grades at 9-7, highlighting the strong academic performance and consistency of the year group.
Excellence Across the Curriculum
Pupils achieved outstanding results across a broad range of subjects. This year’s strongest-performing subjects included: German: 71.4% grades 9-7, Music: 66.7% grades 9-7, Chemistry: 62.5% grades 9-7, English Literature: 59.7% grades 9-7, French: 55.6% grades 9-7, Biology: 54.2% grades 9-7, Physical Education: 52.4% grades 9-7 and Physics: 50.0% grades 9-7
More than a measure of academic attainment, these results provide a firm foundation for future achievement. They reflect the depth of learning, intellectual curiosity and determination developed throughout pupils’ time at King’s, ensuring they are well prepared for the next stage of their education. As they progress into Sixth Form, pupils can build on this success through a diverse curriculum of 26 A-level and BTEC subjects, enabling them to pursue pathways aligned with their strengths, interests and future aspirations.
Commenting on the results, Headmaster Benjamin Evans said:
“The results achieved by the Fifth Form class of 2026 are very impressive. Their results are double the national average for grades 7 – 9 and more than double for grade 9.
There are pleasing performances and stories of personal academic growth throughout the year group, and pupils now have an academic springboard from which to begin their Sixth Form courses.
Perhaps most pleasing is our average value-added score of +0.5, which means that as a collective, pupils gained more than 300 grades over prediction. This shows the value of an academic education at King’s, and I am excited to see what this group achieves as they become my first Lower Sixth Form at the College.”
As we celebrate the achievements of pupils here in the UK, we are also incredibly proud to recognise the fantastic A-level and GCSE results achieved by pupils at King’s College Doha and Rohtak. These results are particularly significant given the exam contingency arrangements in Doha.
All three sets of results reflect the hard work, resilience and determination of pupils, alongside the dedication of staff and the strength of the education and support provided across the King’s community.
