Two King’s pupils have achieved remarkable success at the recent Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run World Championships in Madeira over half term, producing outstanding performances for Great Britain and showcasing the talent being developed through King’s thriving Pentathlon community.
Leading the way was Bella from Year 8, who once again demonstrated her class on the international stage with a series of outstanding performances. Having qualified for multiple World Championships throughout her Pentathlon journey, Bella’s success is the result of years of dedication, training and commitment, supported by her coaches, family and the opportunities available both within and beyond King’s Prep.
Competing across three disciplines against some of the world’s best young athletes, Bella delivered a series of impressive performances:
- 12th place in the Biathle
- 8th place in the Triathle
- 4th place in the Laser Run
Adding to an exceptional championship, Bella was also part of the Great Britain Laser Run team that secured a gold medal, helping GB claim top honours in the team competition.
Speaking about her experience, Bella said:
“I had a great time in Madeira. I was nervous but it all came together really well. I was young for my age category but in a way this spurred me on. Across the 5 days I had a great experience. It was especially exciting to win a team gold medal with my GB teammates.”
Fellow King’s Prep pupil Seb from Year 7 also enjoyed a memorable championship in the Biathle. His qualification alone was a remarkable achievement for an athlete who only took up the sport two years ago after joining King’s College Prep School.
Encouraged and supported by Pixie Foad, Director of Sport, Seb first discovered the sport through the King’s Prep after-school Pentathlon hobby. Since then, he has made full use of the school’s extensive sporting opportunities, developing his open-water swimming and swim-run transitions in the outdoor pool, while honing his running through athletics, cross-country and training in the King’s Loop. His dedication, combined with the support and opportunities available at King’s, has helped him progress rapidly in the sport.
Seb progressed confidently through the heats to secure his place in the World Championship final. Delivering an outstanding performance he finished 12th in the world from a field of 26 competitors and recorded a personal best time, bringing a remarkable championship campaign to a memorable close.
Speaking about his achievement, Seb said:
“Had it not been for King’s and the opportunities I’ve been given through Pentathlon hobby, I might never have had the chance to race for Great Britain. The encouragement from my teachers has been amazing and this experience is something I’ll never forget. Everyone has been very supportive of my training and competitions, and I felt very proud coming into school on Monday morning”
Bella and Seb are the latest in a growing line of King’s athletes to excel in modern pentathlon and its associated disciplines. The sport has become a particular success story for the school in recent years, with pupils progressing from introductory sessions and school clubs to competing at national and international level. Their achievements further strengthen King’s reputation for developing talented young athletes and creating pathways that enable pupils to perform on the world stage.
Congratulations to Bella and Seb on their outstanding achievements. We look forward to following their continued success in the years ahead.
