King’s Duo Earn International Recognition with England U19 Selection

King’s College, Taunton, is proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of Bertie M and Theo L, who have both been selected to represent England U19s, marking an exciting milestone in their cricketing journeys.

Fresh from completing his A-levels this summer, Bertie made his England U19 debut last week in the Test match against Pakistan at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground. Opening the batting, he produced a magnificent innings of 131 runs, announcing himself on the international stage in style.

The achievement is the latest chapter in a cricketing journey that has flourished during his time at King’s. Having joined the School in Year 9, Bertie was identified early as a talented left-handed top-order batter and earned a place in the Somerset Academy as a teenager.

His recent England debut carries a fitting sense of déjà vu. Arundel Castle Cricket Ground was also the venue where Bertie helped King’s Under-15 side lift the National T20 Knockout Cup, one of several standout moments in his development as a young cricketer.

Bertie’s England selection comes on the back of a remarkable run of form. In recent weeks, he has scored 107 for Somerset Second XI against Surrey Second XI, followed by 94 against Nottinghamshire Second XI, underlining the consistency and maturity that have characterised his performances throughout the summer.

Meanwhile, fellow King’s cricketer Theo has also enjoyed a phenomenal year. After completing his GCSEs this summer, he was awarded a prestigious Metro Bank contract and made his List A debut for Somerset against Kent at Canterbury in July, just weeks before receiving his GCSE results.

Theo’s rise through the game has continued at impressive speed, culminating in his selection for the England U19 One Day International squad for the forthcoming four-match series against Pakistan, which gets underway at Arundel Castle Cricket Ground.

The dual England call-ups represent a tremendous achievement for both players and reflect not only their talent but also the hard work, dedication and commitment they have shown over many years. From school and club cricket to county pathways and now international honours, both Bertie and Theo have embraced every opportunity to develop their game.
