Twelve members of King’s Chapel Choir travelled to Oxford for a memorable musical engagement, performing Evensong as guests of The Queen’s College, Oxford.
The occasion brought together a distinguished group of young musicians, as King’s pupils joined members of the Chapel Choirs from fellow Woodard Schools, Worksop College and Ellesmere College, to sing alongside the renowned Choir of The Queen’s College. The collaboration provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to experience singing within a larger ensemble while engaging with peers from across the Woodard Foundation.
Under the direction of Professor Owen Rees, the rehearsal process offered a clear insight into the exceptionally high standards maintained by The Queen’s College Choir. The experience proved both inspiring and educational, as pupils were challenged to perform at a level synonymous with one of Oxford’s leading collegiate choirs.
The service of Evensong itself was a highlight of the visit, showcasing the combined choirs’ musicality and commitment. Performing in the historic surroundings of The Queen’s College Chapel added to the significance of the occasion, creating a memorable setting for both singers and congregation alike.
Beyond the musical achievements, the visit also provided a valuable opportunity for pupils to connect and collaborate with pupils from other Woodard schools. It was particularly pleasing to see these relationships develop, strengthening the sense of community across the wider Woodard network.
Looking ahead, there is excitement for a follow-up Woodard Voices event scheduled for October, in which King’s hopes to participate. Building on the success of this visit, the choir looks forward to further opportunities to collaborate and perform at such a high level.
This experience marks another important step in the musical journey of King’s Chapel Choir, reflecting both their dedication to excellence and their enthusiasm for shared musical experiences.
