At King’s, we are proud to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our pupils, and this term, one mathematician has truly stood out. Boxuan L, currently in Fourth Form, has earned a Silver Award in the prestigious UKMT Senior Kangaroo, placing him among the top 1.25% of pupils nationally.
The Senior Kangaroo is a follow-on round to the UKMT Senior Mathematical Challenge, an advanced competition designed to stretch the most able mathematicians in the country. To qualify, pupils must score in the top 5% nationally in the initial challenge, a feat Boxuan accomplished earlier this term.
The Kangaroo itself is a 60-minute paper with 20 highly complex, integer-answer questions. Each correct answer earns five marks, but the difficulty level means it’s impossible to attempt every question in the time allowed. Success requires not only mathematical skill but also strategic thinking and time management.
Scoring 55 marks, Boxuan secured a Silver Award, an extraordinary accomplishment given that the competition is aimed at pupils studying A-Level Mathematics. As a Fourth Form pupil, Boxuan is among the youngest to reach this level, demonstrating exceptional talent and determination.
We are incredibly proud of Boxuan’s achievement and excited to see how his mathematical journey continues. Competitions like the UKMT challenges not only celebrate talent but also inspire pupils to think creatively and push boundaries.
Congratulations to Boxuan on this outstanding success!
