We are delighted to share the exciting news that King’s pupil, Maddie R, has signed a professional contract with Somerset County Cricket Club.
Maddie joined King’s in Third Form, and ever since, she has been pushing the boundaries in terms of her sports, particularly her cricket. Maddie was part of the U14’s boys’ county cup winning side that went on to be National champions the following year. Maddie has featured prominently in the U18 girls’ First XI, which she started playing in at 13 years old. Last year, Maddie was the youngest cricketer to be selected on the Somerset Women’s Academy and has started this season in fine form, showcasing her excellent left-arm pace bowling with a recent five wickets against Cardiff Met University Second XI.
Maddie has been making impressive strides in her cricketing journey, having and representing Exeter Cricket Club. Her continued development and commitment to the game have now been recognised with this significant opportunity at a senior level.
Maddie has progressed through the Devon pathway and made her debut for Devon Women in 2025. Her contributions helped Exeter CC secure victory in the U19 National Finals, an early indication of her potential on the national stage.
This short-term contract will see Maddie join the Somerset senior squad, providing valuable experience in a professional environment and the chance to continue learning and developing alongside top players. Maddie goes straight into the Somerset Women’s Squad playing in the Metro Bank One Day Cup match against Hampshire at Utilita Bowl this weekend.
Speaking about the opportunity, Maddie described the moment as “unreal” and highlighted how much she is looking forward to learning from the environment and contributing to the team over the summer.
Maddie will be following in OA’s Erin Vukusic’s footsteps, current Women’s Somerset cricketer, who also secured a contract with Somerset following her cricketing journey at King’s.
This is a fantastic achievement and a reflection of Maddie’s hard work and passion for the game. Everyone at King’s College is incredibly proud of her progress and look forward to following the next stage of her journey.
