At King’s Prep, learning beyond the classroom is a key focus, and this term Year 7 pupils have experienced history in a truly immersive and memorable way.
In the classroom, pupils explored the dramatic events of the Spanish Armada by transforming their learning space into a map of the British Isles. Using their own Tudor ship models, they re-enacted key moments of the conflict, gaining a deeper, more practical understanding of this pivotal period in history.
This hands-on approach is central to the King’s Prep ethos, bringing subjects to life so pupils can engage more deeply and retain knowledge more effectively.
The learning extended beyond the classroom with an exciting educational visit to Cleeve Abbey, where pupils investigated the impact of Henry VIII’s Dissolution of the Monasteries. Walking through the historic site, pupils discovered what daily life was like for monks and explored the routines and restrictions of monastic living. Many reflected on the challenge of living in silence, offering thoughtful insights into how different life was in the past.
Experiences like these play a vital role in enhancing the school experience at King’s Prep, allowing pupils to connect academic study with real-world environments and historical settings.
The day concluded with a creative highlight, as pupils took part in an inspiring poetry workshop. Drawing on the atmosphere and rich history of the Abbey, they produced their own imaginative writing, demonstrating how cross-curricular learning can deepen understanding and spark creativity.
By combining classroom teaching with immersive experiences, King’s Prep continues to ensure that learning is dynamic, engaging and meaningful, helping pupils develop not only knowledge, but curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.
