King’s College, Taunton’s Equestrian Team delivered an outstanding performance at the NSEA Championships at Hickstead over the half-term break, securing multiple first-place finishes in a highly competitive field and surpassing last year’s impressive achievements.
The championships opened with the Dressage competition, where riders Valder F, Matilda J, Harriet T and Clemmie S B produced a polished team performance to finish in a commendable fourth place.
It was in the jumping arenas, however, that King’s truly excelled. In the County Show Jumping competition, the 70cm team of James T, Oliver, Rory and Flora J delivered a faultless and confident display to secure first place, setting the tone for what would become a remarkable run of victories.
The success continued in the 80cm Team Show Jumping event, where Matilda, Rory, Oliver and Clemmie once again claimed first place, underlining the depth and consistency of the squad. Clemmie also impressed individually, finishing in fourth place in a strong field.
Further success followed in the Eventers Challenge 80cm, where Harriet, Oliver, Matilda and Rory combined effectively to achieve a strong second-place finish against tough opposition.
The standout individual performances continued at the higher level. In the Eventers Challenge 90cm, Harriet rose to the occasion with a superb round to take first place in a large and competitive class, demonstrating exceptional skill and composure.
Rory added another major highlight in the 80cm Show Jumping Qualifier, competing against more than 70 riders. With an outstanding and assured performance, Rory secured yet another first-place finish for King’s, capping an extraordinary series of results.
Beyond the competitive success, the team’s spirit remained high throughout the event, with riders celebrating their achievements together, including a well-earned water fight in the warm weather.
The championships marked a hugely successful outing for King’s, driven by determination, teamwork and exceptional riding. Gratitude is extended to the dedicated pupils, their talented ponies and the committed parents who supported the team throughout the Bank Holiday weekend.
