We are thrilled to announce that Freddy W, a talented Fifth Form pupil here at King’s, has been awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship. This highly sought-after national award is designed to support and inspire the next generation of engineering leaders.
The Arkwright Engineering Scholarships, managed by The Smallpiece Trust is the most esteemed scholarship of its kind, designed to inspire pupils to pursue their dreams and change the world as an outstanding engineer of the future aims to encourage young people from all backgrounds to pursue their dreams, as described by arkwright.org.uk
This year, the program has awarded a total of 320 scholarships to enthusiastic young engineers across the UK. These scholarships are recognised and respected by leading universities and companies, including Rolls-Royce, BAE Systems, and Microsoft Research.
Freddy’s journey to receiving this esteemed scholarship involved a rigorous selection process. He had to complete a detailed application form, a challenging aptitude exam, and an in-depth interview. This comprehensive assessment tested his engineering knowledge, leadership skills, and creative thinking. Freddy’s flair for solving engineering design problems and his passion for the field shone through, earning him this remarkable achievement.
As an Arkwright Scholar, Freddy will be given the opportunity to enhance his A-level studies and deepen his understanding and experience of engineering. He will benefit from access to specific mentoring, enrichment opportunities, industry-based experience days, and technical lectures. Additionally, King’s will receive a donation to support STEM events and resources, further enhancing an internal vibrant engineering department.
Freddy will learn who his sponsor will be at the start of the new academic year, the scholarship will provide additional support and opportunities tailored to his interests and career aspirations.
