Classroom in the tree tops coming soon to Pelican Nursery

 

A major redevelopment project is underway this summer at The Pelican Nursery, with a giant tree house structure set to provide enhanced outdoor learning opportunities for the youngest children.

The elevated classroom-in-the-trees will provide a stunning space to play, connect and enjoy extensive outdoor learning all year round.

Enhanced learning and play opportunities at nursery

The tree house, a standout feature of the project is in addition to other major development and refurbishment work that is in full swing this summer, including a newly landscaped play area, enhanced Forest School with mud kitchen, modernised classrooms, and a smart new entrance.

The Pelican Nursery

The Pelican Nursery has long been known for its nurturing environment and exceptional outdoor space. The tree house is a gem of an addition to a setting designed to inspire the youngest minds.

Head of Pre-Prep at the school, Claire Luckhurst said “We are incredibly proud of the care and education we offer at The Pelican Nursery. The investment in the site will help us build on the warm, welcoming experience families already know us for, whilst creating even more opportunities for children to learn and thrive in the most inspiring setting.”

Prep school development work underway as part of the long term plan

This summer’s transformation marks the first phase of a long-term development plan across the Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep school in accordance with the ambitious five year strategic plan for King’s across both school sites. Future phases will build on this momentum, ensuring the school continues to offer the very best environment for young children to learn, grow, and thrive, now and into the next decade.

Michael Sloan, Executive Head of King’s College said “Our youngest children deserve the very best start, and having the freedom to learn and grow in a safe and inspiring outdoor environment is more important than ever. The development work marks the beginning of an exciting journey that will build on everything that already makes The Pelican Nursery and King’s College Prep School a really special place.”

Lead advisory on the project and school governor Marcus Gunn commented “We are looking forward to the positive impact this expansion and redevelopment will have on the local community and the young children attending The Pelican Nursery.

Part one of the nursery redevelopment will be completed during the Autumn term 2025, with limited places still available for families seeking exceptional early years provision.

Exceptional early years provision with 30 hours funding and playgroup sessions available

30 hours funding is accepted from September 2025 (under specific terms and conditions) and playgroup enquiries are still open, playgroup participants will also have access to the treehouse.
