Last week, the King’s community came together for one of the most anticipated traditions in the school calendar, our annual Chinese New Year Supper.
Since its beginnings in 2008, this event has grown into a cherished evening of cultural appreciation, culinary excellence and togetherness. This year, we proudly welcomed the Year of the Fire Horse, a zodiac sign known for its passion, energy, creativity and fearless spirit.
We were delighted to be joined by the Year 8 boys from King’s College Prep, accompanied by Headteacher Heidi Berry and House Parent Anna Hardy. Their presence added to the sense of community and continuity that makes this event so special, bringing both the Senior and Prep pupils together in celebration.
As always, the atmosphere in the dining room was warm, festive and full of excitement. The dedicated catering team once again transformed the space into a celebration of colour and symbolism. A particular highlight was the beautifully crafted placemats. These were not simply decorative additions but the result of months of careful planning and preparation, demonstrating the exceptional care and pride the team invests in this occasion each year.
A much-loved element of the evening was the series of multilingual speeches delivered by our pupils, offering an inspiring showcase of cultural connection and linguistic talent. Herbert opened the evening with an eloquent address in English, reflecting on the significance of the New Year and the values represented by the Fire Horse. Rocco followed with a confident and engaging speech in Mandarin, setting a thoughtful tone for the celebration that followed. The final speech was delivered beautifully in Cantonese by Marcus, whose words captivated the room and highlighted the rich cultural diversity within our community.
From the exceptional food to the heartfelt pupil contributions, the Chinese New Year Supper once again proved to be a highlight of the year, bringing pupils, staff and guests together to honour tradition, enjoy community and celebrate the joy of new beginnings.
We extend our sincere thanks to the catering team, the pupils and everyone involved for creating a truly memorable evening.
