We have been welcoming Year 11 pupils back to school today to celebrate their incredible set of GCSE results.
One of our best performing subjects, further maths – a new course this year – saw 83% of pupils achieve grades 9-7 (A*-A), whilst in maths half of the year group achieved grades 9-8 (A*-A). With some brilliant results also being seen in our music and languages departments.
An incredible 14 pupils secured a grade average of above grade 8 (A*) across all subjects undertaken and achieved excellent value-added results throughout. Pupils celebrating gaining ten or more grades 9-7 (A and above): Isabel N, Kate B, Natalia P, Riana T, Benjamin K, Charles H, Jago B, Shruthi S, Georgia C, George N, Freddie M and Robyn C. A further ten pupils achieved nine grades at this level. Many in this list joined King’s College Prep School, benefitting from our 2-18 educational provision.
Among the school’s academic highflyers were several pupils who also excelled outside of the classroom. King’s has a long history of tailoring support to the needs of the individual to ensure a healthy balance is achieved and maintained across academic studies and co-curricular pursuits. In the past, the school has supported pupils who have competed for Team GB in a wealth of sports, those who have managed the priorities of professional cricket and rugby academies, and pupils keen to engage in local community issues and fundraising challenges.
This year’s cohort is no different, with pupils having performed equally well in environments other than the classroom: Thomas R joined King’s College at the prep school, and in conjunction with a brilliant set of academic results has this year been playing senior cricket for Somerset and for the U19 England cricket team. Thomas is part of the Somerset Pathway and has been on the Academy for the last two years. He has demonstrated exceptional dedication to his sport as well as his studies and is an inspiration to our younger pupils across the school.
We are incredibly proud of our girls who bucked the national trend and performed exceptionally well in STEM subjects, Isabel N and Kate B, both pupils coming through from our prep school; Isabel achieved 9s in all three separate sciences and maths alongside DT and Latin, with Kate achieving 9s in separate sciences, further maths, maths, and English.
