We were so lucky to welcome bestselling author Abi Elphinstone to King’s College Prep, with an inspiring session for our Years 3 – 6 pupils, as well as children from local primary schools.
Abi Elphinstone, renowned for her Dreamsnatcher trilogy and Unmapped Chronicles, has captivated young readers with her imaginative storytelling. Her stand-alone book, Sky Song, received high praise from The Times, which hailed her as “A worthy successor to C.S. Lewis.” Her latest series, Ember Spark, continues to enchant readers with thrilling tales of daring dragons and magical maladies.
During her visit, Abi shared her excitement about engaging with our pupils: “It was a delight to speak to the King’s College Prep pupils – together with children from visiting primary schools – about writing books. They listened so attentively, came up with such inventive ideas for stories and asked brilliant questions. Lots of budding writers in the audience!”
Abi’s extensive experience, having published more than 10 books, provides a wealth of knowledge for our Prep pupils. She revealed her unique sources of inspiration, ranging from shower gel bottles and street signposts to adventures in Mongolia. Abi also offered valuable tips on how pupils can discover their own stories, create captivating titles, and craft compelling opening lines.
We were particularly excited to welcome Abi, whose mother was previously Head of English at King’s College, adding a special connection to her visit.
Abi’s visit will undoubtedly reinforce the importance of reading and help our pupils see the joy and fun in storytelling. We look forward to witnessing the positive impact of her visit on the children’s descriptive and creative writing in the weeks to come.
This event was a fantastic opportunity for our young writers to learn from one of the best in the field and to ignite their passion for reading and writing.
