King’s is celebrating the remarkable achievements of OA Sam Cobb, who enjoyed a sensational week at the UIPM Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run World Championships in Madeira, returning home with three World Championship titles and five medals for Great Britain.
Sam’s performances capped an outstanding championship and further cemented his reputation as one of Britain’s leading modern pentathletes.
Now competing as a professional modern pentathlete following the completion of his university degree, Sam produced a series of exceptional performances against some of the world’s best athletes:
- 1st Laser Run Individual World Champion
- 1st Laser Run Mixed Relay World Champion
- 1st Triathle Mixed Relay World Champion
- 2nd Biathle Mixed Relay
- 4th Triathle Individual
The standout moment came in the senior men’s Laser Run final, where Sam was crowned World Champion after producing a superb performance in a highly competitive field. In doing so, he defeated several internationally renowned athletes, including Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Giorgio Malan of Italy, to secure the biggest title of his career to date.
Speaking after his victory, Sam described the atmosphere as incredible and praised the support from teammates and spectators lining the course in Funchal. Reflecting on the race, he credited strong shooting and a determined final run for helping him secure the world title.
Sam’s success is the latest chapter in King’s proud association with modern pentathlon and its associated disciplines. Throughout his time at King’s, Sam embraced the wide range of sporting opportunities available and developed the resilience, determination and competitive spirit that have helped him reach the very highest level of international sport.
His achievements also provide inspiration for the next generation of King’s athletes. With pupils from the Prep Bella and Seb recently representing Great Britain at age-group World Championships, Sam’s success highlights the strength of the pentathlon pathway connected to King’s and demonstrates what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and a passion for sport.
Everyone at King’s is immensely proud of Sam’s achievements. To become a World Champion is an extraordinary accomplishment and one that reflects years of dedication, sacrifice and perseverance. We congratulate Sam on a truly outstanding championship.
