Selected from hundreds of young athletes across the country, King’s College Prep pupils, Bella, James, Rufus, Rory and Pip, along with Senior School pupil Alba, have earned a spot to represent Great Britain in three modern pentathlon disciplines – Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run.
Biathle is sub-sport of modern pentathlon that combines running and swimming in a continuous format. Triathle combines three of the Pentathlon sports- swimming, running and shooting and Laser Run combines continuous running and shooting.
This success follows months of commitment and hard work from the young athletes, supported by their families as well as coaching teams across King’s.
What makes this achievement particularly special is how much of the pupils’ training takes place within the King’s community. Their success is a reflection of the school’s commitment to nurturing sporting excellence and providing pupils with the resources and encouragement to thrive. Swimming sessions often begin before the school day, with some pupils training up to four mornings a week. After-school swim sessions are equally busy, with pupils attending to sharpen their technique and build stamina.
Running is a regular part of life at King’s. Pupils train on the “King’s Loop” during lunchtime, take part in cross-country competitions, and incorporate running into their hobbies, including Pentathlon.
Laser pistol shooting requires intense repetition and focus, and many pupils dedicate time to hone their skills. This kind of dedication, supported by families and encouraged by the school, has been key to their success.
Pixie Foad Director of Sport at the Prep commented
“To have six pupils qualify to represent their country is a huge achievement and we are incredibly proud of them all. Their level of determination and hard work that they have applied to get to this point has been inspiring to watch”
The children are all thoroughly looking forward to competing as the spirit of the GB team is electric, and we’ll be wishing them luck every step of the way.
