Sixth Form Beyond King’s
Futures: Empowering you for a competitive world and ensuring you are real world ready
At King’s, we don’t just prepare you for exams: we prepare you for life.
Our Futures programme goes far beyond traditional career guidance to give you the courage to discover your unique ambitions and prepare confidently for the future.
Unlike comparable schools, our approach draws on real-world entrepreneurial experience to help students become ‘match-ready’ for an increasingly competitive job market.
That’s why we don’t just focus on academic grades. Instead, we uncover your individual talents and aspirations – giving you a significant edge.
From Year 9 onwards, all students begin using Unifrog, a comprehensive platform that helps build a personal profile to track achievements, interests, and psychometric insights.
In addition, we introduce the Japanese concept of Ikigai – finding your ‘reason for living’ by exploring four key areas: what you’re good at; what you’re passionate about; what the world needs; and how you can be rewarded. This holistic method ensures we’re supporting the whole person, whatever the predicted grades.
While university remains the destination for approximately 90% of our students, we provide comprehensive guidance on other options such as gap year opportunities, direct workplace entry and apprenticeships which are increasingly popular.
Our futures provision is built on a strong pastoral foundation, including personalised tutor system from Year 9; small group and one-to-one mentoring in Sixth Form; and close collaboration between futures specialists and academic staff.
Delivered by experienced staff, our collaborative skills development programme includes visiting speaker sessions, practical tasks, personal finance guidance, and career exploration workshops.
Our tutor system is the cornerstone of our futures support, providing a robust, personalised approach to student development. From Year 9, each student is carefully assigned to a tutor who becomes the primary academic and personal mentor. As students progress through the school, the tutor relationship becomes increasingly tailored. Tutors play a crucial role in exploring psychometric insights and ensuring informed choices about A-levels and future pathways.
Located in our new Sixth Form Centre, our dedicated futures space reflects our innovative approach. Equipped with comfortable seating, technology and a world map, it’s designed to be an inspiring environment where you’re treated both as an adult and an active participant in planning your bright future.
Our thriving alumni network benefits our current students by facilitating weekly sessions with young professionals, direct connections with alumni via monitored video calls, and exploration of career paths through first-hand experiences.
