Learning Support
At King’s, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, both in and beyond the classroom.
That’s why our Learning Strategies Department plays such an integral role in supporting the unique journey of all pupils they come into contact with.
Each member of the team brings a wealth of expertise to their roles, as qualified teachers specialised in supporting children with SEND. Our Learning Strategies team have specialisms in literacy, dyslexia, mathematics, dyscalculia, EAL and EYFS.
Our commitment begins even before a pupil starts at King’s. The Learning Strategies team meets with families during the admissions process, if they feel they would benefit from learning support – to understand each child’s story especially any existing needs and the support they may already receive.
By working closely with families and previous schools, we ensure a smooth transition. Equally, our team communicates regularly with our counterparts at King’s College to ensure the seamless handover from Year 8 to Year 9.

From the moment a pupil joins King’s, we take a proactive approach to understanding their individual needs. Children are screened at age-appropriate stages for learning challenges, such as working memory, processing speed, reading, writing, or numeracy.
This careful attention helps us support pupils in the classroom, through quality first teaching and by meeting their individual SEND needs. Our Learning Strategies Department also provides 1:1 lessons, small group teaching, and in-class support for pupils who have additional learning needs. While we focus on core subjects like Maths and English, we’re always guided by what’s best for the individual child.
Our Learning Strategies Department is at the heart of everything we do here at King’s. The team works closely with subject teachers, boarding staff and families. This holistic approach ensures that each child receives the required support in a way that feels natural. Open communication with parents ensures that families feel included, supported, and reassured throughout their child’s time with us.
By combining expert knowledge, personalised care, and a commitment to early identification, we ensure that every child can confidently explore their potential.
