The Arts at King’s Pre-Prep

At King’s Pre-Prep, we introduce the arts to children in their earliest years through a variety of playful experiences.

Drama is a particular strength. Each term, our pupils have the opportunity to showcase their talents through performances: Nativity plays for Nursery and Pre-Prep, Year group assemblies where children perform for their parents, and our renowned and popular summer show involving all children from ages 2 to 7.

These productions allow our young learners to develop their confidence, creativity, and performance skills, while also incorporating music, costume, and stagecraft.

The themes of our summer shows have ranged from retellings of Maori legends from New Zealand to Royal Variety Show performances and Olympic-themed productions. Each show has a moral woven into the performance, helping to develop our pupils’ understanding of the world around them.

Music is also a core part of our curriculum.

All children from Nursery onwards receive specialist music lessons, with our Year 2 pupils learning to play the violin as part of their studies.Additionally, children who choose to learn an instrument or take singing lessons have the opportunity to showcase their progress in our informal termly concerts held in the school theatre.

Artistic expression is woven throughout the daily life of our Pre-Prep. While not a distinct subject, the children’s artwork and creative projects are often featured in our performances and displays. We believe that nurturing the arts helps to develop the whole child, fostering imagination, self-expression, and a love of learning.

So let us introduce your little one to the wide and wonderful world of the arts…
