Equestrian

Having our own Equestrian Centre so close to the College site is a wonderful privilege.
This unique asset brings a range of benefits for our pupils, from beginners to advanced riders. Here, our BHS-approved professional coaches help pupils to foster a love of horses and equestrian sports alike.
OUR INCLUSIVE APPROACH
The Equestrian Centre welcomes pupils of all levels, from those who just want to try a pony ride for the first time to experienced competitive equestrians.
We have a maximum of four pupils per lesson to ensure specific attention and relevant instruction, catering to a variety of ages and skill levels, with all sizes of ponies and horses.
This friendly and inclusive environment encourages both boys and girls to participate, and we enjoy seeing pupils from all years mixing together and supporting each other.
We’ll treat your child as an individual and work hard to match them with the right horse or pony and tailor the entire experience to their specific needs and interests.

EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES
As well as regular riding lessons for all levels, the Equestrian Centre offers other unique activities that set it apart. In particular, our spectacular off-road hacking trails enable pupils to experience riding through beautiful fields and woodland – an incomparable opportunity that’s rarely available at schools.
Pupils can also try their hand at polo during the summer months, taking advantage of our close proximity to the Taunton Vale Polo Club.
For those who want to compete, we regularly enter national competitions and qualify for prestigious events like the Royal Windsor Horse Show. These opportunities allow our riders to hone their skills and experience the prestige of representing the school.
Alongside riding lessons, our pupils also have the opportunity to be involved in the care and maintenance of the horses. This includes grooming, mucking out, and other stable duties, which can be a rewarding and calming experience. After all, this hands-on interaction with the horses is proven to have positive impacts on pupils’ mental health and wellbeing.
The Equestrian Centre also provides a space for pupils to simply take a break from the demands of academic life. A hack through the countryside or simply spending time with the horses can help pupils unwind and reduce stress – so they join us for a hot chocolate and then return to their studies feeling refreshed and focused again.
In addition to the 10-16 lovely horses and ponies currently homed at the Equestrian Centre, we also welcome pupils who wish to bring their own horses to school. We currently have space for up to six privately owned horses on site at any given time. Pupils who bring their own horses are able to continue their regular riding and training, and represent the school in national equestrian competitions.
We encourage all of our pupils to take advantage of the Equestrian Centre, whether as a regular activity or an occasional treat. The unique opportunities and inclusive atmosphere here make it a valuable asset for our community.
