The Maths department at King’s Hall believe it is crucial that every child at is given the opportunity to become a confident, numerate learner. The challenge is to make maths fun and accessible, and to provide an atmosphere in which our pupils feel comfortable with their learning, and can grow in confidence as they develop their knowledge and skills.

Recently, four Year 5 pupils boarded the bus in excited anticipation to join around 100 children from other prep and primary schools at Bristol Grammar School’s annual Inter-school Maths Challenge.

The children competed in teams of two to solve different number, shape and space (mathematical and not astronomical) puzzles. Our team worked with great enthusiasm and determination for each eight-minute challenge, with the countdown clock on the big screen adding to the excitement as the children combined their brain power, shared ideas and tackled each puzzle.

Maths teacher Mrs Foster proudly reflected: “It was a fun, fast paced and educational afternoon that stretched our pupils and reinforced their learning. It’s always exciting for the children to meet their peers and learn from others, and this is the perfect opportunity to challenge them outside the classroom.”
