Over the last few weeks, the King's Equestrian team have been flying!

Our equestrian team has been experiencing some recent successes, not only collectively, but for a number of individual riders. Attending an NSEA competition at Pontispool Equine Sports Centre on the edge of Taunton, our team qualified for Hickstead in the Eventer's Challenge. Across two classes, the course was particularly tough, but true to form, the King's teams pulled together to secure the qualification. Taking part were Jess M, Emily M, Sophie P, Harriet W, Rory F, Tabitha T, William T, Lizzy R, Pippa R and last but by no means least Josh C, who stepped in at the last minute to make up a second team! Of note here, we have a number of siblings across both schools, who ride and compete together, Josh formally riding alongside older brother Sam.

On Sunday we headed off to KSEC for a show jumping event, narrowly missing out on qualifying for the Royal Windsor Horse Show. However, we do still have another couple of opportunities to do this. The day wasn't without some success: the King's team, comprising Tilly F, Emily M and Dandi P won the 1m class, qualifying for Hickstead, with Tilly also qualifying as an individual. Sophie P also qualified as an individual in the 80cm class.

We look forward to further updates as the term progresses.

With a growing interest in riding at both King's Hall and King's College, and with increased expressions of interest about pupils bringing their own ponies to school, we developed and established the King's Equestrian Centre in September 2018.

Having moved to a new location, the centre is a self-contained yard with 12 stables, tack room, feed/store area, grazing, a 20m x 40m outdoor arena, and access to off-road hacking close by. Located just fifteen minutes' drive from King's Hall, and five minutes from King's College, pupils with their own ponies and those who have opted for the King's Horse package, ride three to four times a week as part of an equestrian timetable. Please visit our Equestrian page for further information.
