Boarding at King's College Prep

The boarding house at King's College Prep offers a warm and friendly home-from-home environment, complete with visits from lovable pooch, Snoops. It is split into three separate areas for senior boys, junior boys and girls. Each area allows the children to enjoy their school home in the company of their friends and develop at their own pace.

We recognise that all children are different and the speed at which they develop is unique to every child. We therefore adapt our common room areas and dorms to ensure that everyone finds their own way and builds the confidence to realise their potential.

Developing Independence

Our aim is that children in their final years of boarding have acquired all the necessary skills to be self-sufficient in the house. Whatever style of boarding you decide on, you can rest assured that your child/children will enjoy a happy, family environment with plenty of friends and caring staff.

Boarding Options

Boarding is an important part of life at King’s Hall, with a variety of options to suit all pupils and parents.

For children who are not ready to go into full boarding, we offer a flexi boarding option that gives them a maximum of five nights in the house between Sunday and Saturday. Alternatively, children can board a maximum of three nights per week on our single night or casual boarding package, and all options come with a variety of benefits.

At various times during the year, Year 3 to 8 day pupils are invited to come and experience boarding. Particularly popular are Movie Nights, which are a great way to share an evening of fun and food with friends.

Full Boarding

There is a strong family ethos within the boarding house, and this ensures that our full-time boarders are fully supported throughout their time with us.

Full boarding is a popular choice with many parents who recognise the benefits, be it due to busy work lives, military links or simply because full boarding helps children to become considerate and independent individuals, within a supportive environment.

Houseparent

Mr and Mrs Hardy are houseparents. They live in a flat within the boarding house with their son Jack. They oversee the running of the boarding house, making sure all the boarders are looked after.

"We hope that you and your children are going to have a wonderful time here. Our philosophy in the boarding house is to create an environment where children spend time away from home feeling safe and cared for; where everyone has the opportunity to develop the crucial life skills of independence and self-reliance in addition to a true understanding of the role they play in a family community. Rest assured, we will look after your child/children, and try to make boarding a happy and valuable experience."

Our boarding house is divided into three areas: Senior Boys, Junior Boys and Girls. Each area has its own resident staff with somebody available 24 hours a day to assist the children. During the day, children have access to a full-time nurse and first aid trained staff the rest of the time. As in all families, we have systems and procedures that make living together easier.
