King's College boasts extensive sports pitches and facilities that include an indoor cricket school with PitchVision technology, a tennis and netball dome, indoor 25m swimming pool, indoor climbing wall, squash courts and a strength and conditioning suite. The modern library and business suite caters of pupils of all ages and the 240-seater theatre sees performances, lectures and all manner of events taking place on a regular basis.
Looking for Adventure at King's College Prep School?
Pre-Prep children have access to their own playing field, terraced playgrounds and an enclosed area of woodland known as Little Wood. A much larger area of woodland is also used for our Forest School sessions and is known as Big Wood. Pre-Prep also has a fantastic Nursery, including a room just for two-year-olds.
Pupils from across the school also benefit from an Adventure Playground which boasts impressive apparatus including a lookout tower, swings and traversing ropes.
Art Studio
Our art department received a boost in 2016 when the Silvermead Studio was completed to complement the existing art facilities. This modern, light and versatile new building was generously funded by an OA.
The new studio is light and spacious, allowing for large-scale collaborative projects to take place. The mezzanine floor is equipped with a quiet space, housing computers and other equipment for digital work.
Equestrian Centre
With a growing interest in riding at both King's College Prep School and King's College, and with increased expressions of interest about pupils bringing their own ponies to school, in September 2018 we developed and established the King's Equestrian Centre.
The Centre is a self-contained yard consisting of 11 stables and grazing, and the usual tack rooms, rug rooms and feed store, plus a common room area. Located just fifteen minutes' drive from King's College Prep School and five minutes from King's College, pupils have access to an outdoor 20x40m arena and off-road hacking accessible down quiet country lanes. The whole site sits within close proximity to the Blackdown Hills.
Pupils with their own ponies, and those who have opted for the King's Horse package, ride three to four times a week as part of an equestrian timetable.
Aquatics and Swimming
Our 25m pool is a busy and active place. As well as providing a fabulous on-site facility to our swim team, it also hosts a number of swimming and aquatics programmes including swim club, kayaking, water polo and primary school lessons.
Floodlit Astros
We have two full sized, floodlit astro pitches that enable fast paced play. Sand-based pitches are as lively as a water-based pitch, and provide our pupils with access to an all-weather surface for developing their hockey skills.
King's is an England Hockey Performance Centre and hosts hockey clubs as well as training and competitions as part of County Academy Centres.
