Tutor System

The Third, Fourth and Fifth Forms are divided into two tutor groups within a boarding house. Each tutor mentors and supports seven or eight pupils and meets with them formally twice per week. The meetings follow a programme devised by the Senior Tutor to support the pupils academic progress, as well as mirror the PSHE programme in offering guidance and support as they navigate their teenage years.

All tutors are attached to the house in which they tutor so are well placed to take a close interest in all aspects of a pupil’s life at school. A tutor supports their tutees not only in their academic work, but also in their social and co-curricular activities by helping them make the most of the numerous opportunities on offer at King’s.

In the Third Form, the tutor programme focuses on settling in to King’s life, developing good study skills, making the most of opportunities the school offers and choosing options for GCSE.

In the Fourth and Fifth Forms, tutorials closely monitor academic progress alongside co-curricular activities, and are highly individualised due to the small group meetings.

All pupils are invited to take part in the FutureSmart careers programme alongside other careers activities in order to prepare them to make the decisions necessary for their post 16 education.
