  • “There is a clear, strong pastoral network including tutors and house staff, overseen by the head of boarding and consistent across the school. Sixth formers choose their tutor from the academic staff, to ensure strong relationships. Parents feel in touch with their child’s emotional as well as academic progress and questions are answered swiftly. Punishments are rare with the head claiming that they are ‘a pretty biddable lot’ with ‘very seldom any major disciplinary issues’. Parents concur, ‘through a zero-tolerance approach, the historical laddish culture has disappeared and there is a lot more respect’.”
    - The Good Schools Guide 2021
  • “The happiness and welfare of our pupils is the driving force of our school community.”
Pastoral Care

Pastoral Care

As a Woodard School, pastoral care is at the heart of everything we do here at King’s, and our ISI Inspections consistently award us the highest accolades possible for our level of pastoral care.

We are committed to ensuring that every one of our pupils is known and valued as an individual and that the structures of support are close and effective. As a result, each pupil has a tutor who will support them in their whole school life, not just their academic studies.

Tutors are experienced at putting together individual plans to ensure each pupil is happy and thriving as well as achieving.

Support & Guidance

Support & Guidance

Pastoral care is a responsibility of all staff; additionally we have a number of dedicated pastoral staff for pupils, and indeed parents, to call on:

  • One of our three Deputy Heads is specifically responsible for all elements of pastoral care
  • There is a School Counsellor for pupils who want help working through any issues
  • Our School Chaplain supports our pupils in their spirituality and is available for advice and counselling for those who want it
  • Houseparents and their deputies have regular pastoral and safeguarding training and are on hand to keep a close eye on the social and personal development of all children and young people in their care

  • “Pupils have a well-developed moral compass, they instinctively distinguish right from wrong and show their respect for rules and laws by valuing and supporting the school rules.”
    - ISI Inspection Report 2018
  • “Pupils’ sense of the non-material aspects of life is strengthened by the wide range of work they do to support charities, giving to people or communities less fortunate than themselves.”
    - ISI Inspection Report 2018
