The West of England sevens rugby tournament was recently hosted by King’s College, Queen’s College and Taunton School.

The King’s Under 18 team played at home and with vocal support behind them, opened their account well, playing exceptional rugby against Colston’s School and making the most of the space to run out a convincing 40-0 win.

Two further wins in the group stage secured the team a place in the semi-finals.

Director of Rugby at King’s Schools, Ed Lewsey said: “The team was hugely encouraged by the progress made throughout the day and this provides an excellent platform in the lead-up to Rosslyn Park, with special mention to the performances of Matt Bulman and Angus Crouch.”

The King’s Under 16s enjoyed a mixed set of results, with narrow losses to Blundell’s and Clifton, followed by wins over Plymouth College and Sidcot.

The King’s Under 14s played in a competitive tournament at Queen’s College and showed some promising touches, pulling off victories over Truro and Plymouth College.

As a result of their participation in the tournament, four players from the squad, Joe Eakhurst, Tim Roberts, Charlie Sharland and George Thomas were all invited to attend the National 7s Academy.

King’s College have also recently earned recognition in representative rugby with a number of pupils selected and playing for the England Independent School Lambs.

Dan Luedicke scored a try against the Exeter Chiefs Academy in the Under 18s, while Will Brooke-Webb, Milo Blakey, Joe Messenger and James White were all selected for the Under 16 squad.
