Top Marks for our Mathematicians
At the start of November, our Sixth Form mathematicians, as well as the pupils in top set maths in the Fourth and Fifth Form competed in the Senior Mathematical Challenge.
Aimed at promoting a love of problem solving, the Senior Mathematical Challenge is a 90-minute, multiple-choice competition for pupils across the UK.
It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. These problems are designed to make pupils think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.
We're delighted to announce that pupils achieved two Gold, nine Silver and 43 Bronze Certificates.
Upper Sixth pupil, Charlotte K, achieved ‘Best in the School’. Along with Lower Sixth pupil, Barry L, she achieved above the 108 mark threshold to qualify for the British Olympiad. Both pupils should be congratulated on this exceptional achievement.
Fifth Form pupil, Ruth B and Fourth Form pupil, Timothy H, both achieved Silver awards and 'Best' in their respective year groups.
Commenting, our Head of Maths, Andy Perrins, said:
"Congratulations to Lottie and Barry for placing in the top 1000 pupils nationally in the UKMT Senior Maths Challenge and qualifying for the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1. An amazing achievement – one we are extremely proud of! Good luck in the Olympiad later this week!"
