Sonny Delights in Pre-Season Match
King’s College pupil, Sonny B, joined a long list of Somerset cricketers when he took to the field in the three-day pre-season match against Worcestershire , which started on Monday. On the day, he took 3 wickets for 22 in spectacular fashion.
The 18-year-old right-arm paceman, who hails from Torquay, joined King’s on a sports scholarship in 2017.
Sonny made his debut for Somerset Second XI in 2019 and last autumn he joined the Somerset Academy.
In the Somerset side, he will link up with former King’s College pupils Will Smeed, who left school in the summer of 2020, as well as Eddie Byrom and Tom Banton, all of whom have enjoyed success since making their debuts for the county.
Sonny also finds himself facing another former King’s pupil, Charlie Morris, who is playing for the Worcestershire side against Somerset. Earlier in the Lent Term, Charlie delivered a pace bowling masterclass to our King’s bowlers, which Sonny was part of.
Commenting, our Director of Sport, Phil Lewis, said: “It’s wonderful to have yet another King’s pupil making their senior Somerset debut. Sonny has had some challenges since he joined us a few years ago, but has overcome these with a huge amount of resilience, hard work and with and the support of our cricket programme.”
He added: “We work incredibly closely with Somerset and we are so pleased to see our current and past players performing so well for our local county.”
