OA News – Lannece is Loving Life in the States
Recently, former pupil Lannece H contacted staff with an update on life after King's. Lannece left King’s in 2019 and was accepted at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia, USA.
"This semester, I’m taking six classes; history of civilisation, physical education and sport and exercise science, rhythms, student athlete enrichment, and introduction to business and developmental math.
If you don’t know what a 'rhythms' lesson is, it’s just traditional dance, such as line dancing. We have to teach it to other people, whilst learning about different cultures. I wasn't sure what to expect when I first arrived. Rhythms lessons actually surprised me; it’s quite interesting, although I still can’t dance!
The 'soccer' here is incredible – just what I was looking for! It’s a very professional set up and suits me well. We train every day in the evening, with three early morning lifting sessions in the gym during the week. We usually then get a recovery day where we do ice baths and other forms of rehabilitation tailored around our sports and activities schedules.
I’ve met some incredible people, and made some friends that I know I will be for life. It has been a sacrifice being so far from home, but I am pursuing what I love and doing what’s best for me and what’s going to hopefully give me many paths to a career.
Thank you once again for helping me to be where I am today. I don’t think I would have been writing this email to you if it wasn’t for you and other staff members who supported my journey to the states and helped me throughout my time at King’s."
