King's Rugby Season Draws to a Close

On Saturday, our Equestrian Team came sixth in the Jumping with Style at @Keysoe Riding Club! Well done Dandi P, Ti… - yesterday

A fantastic King’s 15 a-side rugby season concluded on Wednesday 4 December with our end of season awards ceremony. This brought the curtain down on a successful season in which our eight boys’ teams enjoyed another enthralling term of fixtures and training.

Conditions have ranged from the hard and dry conditions in September to the wet and muddy battles of recent weeks.

For our girls, their appetite for rugby has continued to grow, so much so, that, for the first time, we included training in the Michaelmas Term.

Highlights of the season include the thrilling 31 v 29 away win for the U15As against Dean Close, the U16Bs’ last minute victory over Exeter U16As, the 1st XVs battling a 12 v 7 defeat of Kingswood and the U16As’ compelling 12 v 10 win over local rivals Taunton School.

We maintain our strong relationship with Bristol Bears RFC, and a number of our junior players were selected to train with the Elite Player Development Group, including Fourth Formers Max E and Henry H, and Fifth Form pupils Oliver W, Dom F, Charlie S, Aubrey L-S and Harry B.

Elsewhere Fourth Former and U15A number 8, Ben C has achieved a first for a King’s pupil; selection for the junior GB American Football squad. We look forward to following his progress.

There has also been representative success for some of our senior players. First XV Captain Joe M, along with James W and James C were selected for Somerset, Will O and Cam D were chosen for Devon, while Will B-W, Ethan B and Cam D were all invited to the Public Schools Lambs trials. A special thanks and mention must also be made to the U16 squad who raised over £2000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust in their charity static cycle ride.

The Lent Term will witness a change of focus for rugby, with the Rosslyn Park 7s at the end of March, and the West of England 7s tournament also in March.

We are also pleased to announce our 2020 senior rugby tour to Italy and France.
