Christmas Gifts for Young Carers
King’s College and King’s Hall School are part of the Somerset Chapter of Citizens UK, a national organisation that aims to help communities come together for the common good, to act together to bring positive changes to neighbourhoods, cities and the country as a whole.
Before the term ended, a group of pupils and staff came together to gift wrap a number of gift boxes for 30 young carers in the Taunton area.
Under the leadership of School Chaplain, Father Mark Smith, a plea was sent out to the whole school community, asking for donations to the appeal.
The response was overwhelming with in excess of £1000 raised. This enabled the purchase of a great number of gifts all chosen with the recipients in mind.
The young carers are aged between just seven years of age and 19, and are looked after by the Taunton YMCA, who are in the process of joining Citizens Somerset.
Commenting, Father Mark said:
“Every community is measured by how it treats its most vulnerable. We are so pleased to have been able to show love and kindness to this group of young local heroes. My thanks to Mrs Lawson, Ms Rogers and all who donated and helped.”
