Championship Qualification for our Riders

Over half term the King’s Equestrian team fielded a huge number of riders at various events.

A team consisting of senior riders, Sam and Josh C, Skye F and Lizzie C, competed in the South West NSEA (National Schools Equestrian Association) Show Jumping Championships, coming a well-deserved 2nd. The 1m course proved tricky; Lizzie had one fence down, Skye three, Josh, competing in only his second ever 1m class, had one fence down but achieved the fastest time, and Sam went on to jump a beautiful clear round. Finishing on 8 faults, and in a faster time than closest rivals Leweston (on 4 faults), it really was a close call to qualify for the national championships next year.

At the very end of the half term break, we had 21 teams enter in the Eventers Challenge at nearby Pontispool Equine Sports Centre. Particular congratulations go to Tabitha T, Josh C, Harriet W, and Tilly F, who qualified for Hickstead in the 80cm class. Tabitha also finished 1st and Josh 8th individually. The team of Dandi and Jaime P, Sophie F, and Tilly F placed 5th in the 90cm event, and in class 3 (1m), a team consisting of Bel W, Jake F, Matti M and Skye F came 2nd, also qualifying for Hickstead.

As we enter the next period of lockdown, our equestrian staff are looking creatively at ways to ensure our team riders have opportunities to engage in a variety of virtual equestrian events.
