Adult Race Walk for Abby
Fifth Form pupil Abby H produced a personal best over the weekend when she competed in the Müller British Athletics Senior Championships at the Manchester Regional Arena.
Abby, who is still only 15, was competing in the 5k adult race walk on Saturday morning and was the youngest by at least two years. Despite her youth, she covered the distance to finish a very creditable seventh out of the field of nine with her best ever time of 27 minutes 16 seconds.
Since joining King’s in Year 9 Abby has made remarkable progress in this event, considering she only started race walking a short time ago.
After the race Abby said: “What an amazing experience to compete in my first ever British Athletics Championships. It was great to compete as a senior and to gain a 5k track personal best in this event.”
Steve Shaw, who is a sports coach at here at King’s and who also coaches Abby at Taunton Athletics Club said: “This was a really good result for Abby who was by far the youngest competitor in the race. To produce her personal best in this situation is impressive, as is the fact that Abby was only one of two athletes who didn’t receive a warning during the race.”
