The Gender Awareness Initiative
Dr Burgos-Lejonagoitia completed her PhD at the Complutense University of Madrid. At the same time she applied for sponsorship from the Spanish Government to fund her Doctoral Thesis. Competing with 2,000 others, she was the successful applicant and commenced her research at the Spanish Council For Scientific Research (CSIC). During the six years she spent working for the CSIC, she participated in numerous international conferences, published articles in academic magazines and chapters in books. She undertook edition work for publishing houses in the United States, Amsterdam, and Madrid, and was awarded a “Summa Cum Laude” (maximum qualification) for her PhD. Her Thesis was awarded and published. During the last year of her PhD, Dr Burgos also completed an MA in Gender Equality in Human, Social and Legal Sciences at the International University Menéndez Pelayo. She also attained the maximum qualification for her MA Thesis “Feminist Female Journalists before the Spanish Second Republic”. Following the completion of her MA, Dr Burgos has specialised in a more activist approach toward gender equality by speaking about healthy gender roles to secondary students through a series of talks and workshops, both in the public and private sectors. This young project is called “The Gender Awareness Initiative.”
