Alex wins major MCC award

King's pupil Alex Barrow recently received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) at Lord's. Alex, who is in the first year of the sixth form at King's, collected his award at the historic cricket ground from former English test match star Derek Underwood, who is President of the MCC. He was one of just 30 schoolboys from all over the UK who were invited to Lord's on the opening day of the new cricket season for a day of hospitality, thanks to his performance playing against the MCC whilst representing his school. Alex is a King's Cricket Scholar and also part of the Emerging Players Programme at Somerset.

This award follows Alex's contribution in breaking a schoolboys cricket record only last year with fellow King's pupil Jos Buttler. The partnership scored 340 in 49.3 overs to set a new 50 overs national schools cricket record in the 1st XI's match against King's Bruton.

Andy Jones, Co-Director of Sport at King's, said "King's cricket has a long and established record of success. Alex is one of our brightest talents. His work ethic and focus throughout his time at King's have been impressive, and, along with many others, he has taken full advantage of all that King's College has to offer."
