Best Ever GCSE Results

King’s College is today celebrating the school’s best ever set of GCSE results, with 56% of pupils achieving A* and A grades, an increase of 5% from last year. A remarkable 100% of pupils achieved at least 5 A to C grades, with all pupils gaining a C or above in English and Maths.

The Maths Department was especially successful this year, with 33% A* grades and 92% at B or above. Design Technology and Music results were also strong, with 42% and 39% A* grades respectively. Given the depth of sporting talent in this particular year group it is fitting that the PE department achieved its finest ever results, with 65% of pupils achieving A* and A grades. King’s is also proud of its thriving Classics Department, with all Latin and Greek candidates gaining A* or A grades.

Harry Canning, Isabel Petri, Oliver Jones and Charis Elphinstone all achieved the outstanding result of 10 A* grades, while Molly Byles achieved 9 A*s. Taunton-based Alice Round achieved 6 A*s and 4 A grades, whilst other local pupils Edward Bates and Verity Clark both attained 3 A*s and 7As. In all, 15 candidates achieved all As and A*s.

King’s College Headmaster Richard Biggs said: “I am very pleased that the general trend of GCSE improvement over the past few years has continued and that the pupils at King’s have produced yet another record set of results. I congratulate all of them, the academic stars as well as those for whom pass grades represent a real achievement. Together with a good number of pupils joining us from elsewhere, this group of boys and girls will now form part of a very exciting, talented and energetic Lower Sixth year group. We look forward to great things from them in the coming two years.”

King’s College is holding an Open Day on Saturday 4th October. Please contact the Admissions Registrar Mrs Barbara Lancey for further details: 01823 328204.
