Cricket v Sherborne
The 1st XI batted sensibly and were well-positioned at 92 for 2, but a middle-order collapse saw us on 123 for 7, and only a rearguard action led by Ed Nash got us to 161, with Jos Buttler top-scoring on 55. The total never really challenged a strong Sherborne side. The 2nds restricted Sherborne to 173 in the 30 overs, with an aggressive and threatening spell from Henry Potter, the pick of the bowlers. Ed Walker and Ali Klinkenberg established a platform, and a fine 48 from skipper Charlie Close supported by Harry Lang took us to within 10 runs of victory.
The 3rds found themselves chasing leather in the final ten overs of their fielding session, and allowed Sherborne to reach 260 for 4. The chase never really got going, though Doug Love scored 17, Matt Butterfield 25, with top-scorer Ian Hargreaves ending on an excellent 31 not out. The 4ths managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, having restricted the opposition to 140 for 6 in 25 overs. Needing only six off the final over, we managed only two, with Andy Holloway top-scoring on 55 while Ali Taylor hit a quick 38.
The Junior Colts had a magnificent victory over strong opposition. An excellent opening partnership between Alex Barrow and Miles Lenygon allowed us to reach a respectable 187, before an outstanding performance in the field proved the difference between the two teams, bowling Sherborne out for 137.
The Under 14s had the narrowest of defeats, two brilliant catches by Will Walters and George Wayman the highlight of Sherborne's innings of 191. Joe Watts hit an outstanding 70 as King's fell agonisingly four runs short. In the Bs' fixture Sherborne amassed 232 for 7, while King's could only manage 176. The Cs conceded a staggering 299 in 30 overs, and generally came second.
