Cricket v Canford

It was an impressive display in the field by the 1st XI, with some great catches from Kabir Kohli, Jake Knowlton-Parry and Ross Chadwick, and a good tight bowling performance. Our chase got off to a bad start losing two quick wickets, but excellent contributions from Alex Penn, Ross Chadwick, Will McKegney and Ed Nash ensured the chase was always on, though in the end we fell agonisingly short. It was a poor performance by the 2nds, opting to bowl first in tropical heat, and conceding a total of 219. Ed Kean made a characteristically sound start, and Ali Klinkenberg anchored our innings with 60, but to finish 40 short with five wickets remaining makes for a strange and disappointing result.

The Junior Colts restricted Canford to 105, with intelligent swing bowling from Will Hardwick. Alex Barrow, Will Hardwick and George Lock took the chase by the scruff of the neck, and we reached their total after only 16 overs for the loss of just two wickets. The Bs bowled Canford out for 71, with Oliver Jones taking 5 for 23 and Tom Garwood 2 for 19, and Felix Ameye keeping wicket well. We passed Canford's score losing only one wicket, Phil Downie top-scoring with 43.

The Under 14s posted a competitive 179 for 5 in their 30 overs, with good contributions from Sam Merriweather, Taylor Buller, George Wayman and Jamie Grantham. After Canford got off to a storming start, we took several quick wickets, but Canford eventually reached their target with two overs to spare. An excellent half-century for the Bs by Henry Tetley saw us to a healthy total of 125. Good bowling by Nick Mason and tidy fielding by Henry Close contributed to bowling Canford out for just 92. A tremendous opening partnership for the Cs between George Hall and Toby Catton set up an impressive total of 176 for 9. Toby then took four wickets in just three overs, and aided by three from William Pope, Canford were bowled out for 60.
