Cricket v King's Bruton

King's Bruton batted first in the 1st XI fixture, and reached 155 for 7 in their 50 overs, Alex Penn and Calvin Smith the pick of our bowlers. Jos Buttler top-scored with 43 in a productive opening partnership with Will Webster, and we passed their total in the 41st over, with useful contributions from Will McKegney and Jake Knowlton-Parry. The 2nds batted first and were 60 without loss after ten overs, but lost momentum once Ed Walker was out. Ed Kean batted well, and a quick 50 partnership between Ed Nash and Charlie Close took us to a respectable 168 in 30 overs. With Bruton batting well, it took two magnificent catches by Henry Potter to bring us back into contention, and with Duncan Rosewarn and Charlie Close bowling well, we scraped home by 11 runs in an exciting finish.

The 3rds allowed Bruton to get to 130 all out, Gavin Penn and Charlie Evans taking nine wickets between them. King's won in 18 overs, with James Yeabsley top-scoring on 49. The 4ths won by four wickets, with opening bowlers Leo Feilden and Simon Baker quickly taking six wickets. Chasing a low total, King's were 15 for 2, then 52 for 5, before skipper Charlie Evans steered the ship home.

The Junior Colts scored 207 for 8 in 35 overs, Alex Barrow and Harvey Morris batting well. Miles Lenygon took four wickets as Bruton stumbled to 98 all out. Archie Berrow took 3 for 14 for the Bs as Bruton were bowled out for just 54. Ross Wright (19) and Ollie Dent (22) ensured victory in 11 overs.

The Under 14s too bowled Bruton out cheaply, Taylor Buller taking 3 for 17 and Joe Watts 3 for 16, with Sam Merriweather taking a stunning catch diving full-length at short extra-cover. Sam starred with the bat too, his 25 not out taking King's to a comfortable victory. The Bs bowled Bruton out for 62, including a three-wicket maiden from Will Gerwat. An excellent opening partnership between George Lang and Ben Everett saw us home without alarms.
