Musical revue
Following on from the success of last year's musical revue, the drama and music departments combined to produce another evening of showstopping numbers with The History of Musical Theatre 1900-2000. This spectacular production involved over a quarter of the school, including every single member of the 3rd form! Two Ladies from Cabaret was a brilliant start, with Callum Brown, Viktoria Thomas and Jess Keily fully entering into the spirit of the number. Jess was on stage again with the ever-popular Cell Block Tango from Chicago, superbly danced by Laura May, Sophie Wilson, Sophia Warby, Nina Martin, Rosie Main and Georgie Thomas.
Outstanding smaller-scale numbers gave the whole evening a terrific variety of light and shade. Charis Elphinstone and Murray Grindon excelled in Anything You Can Do from Annie Get Your Gun, and Jess Keily's What I Did For Love from A Chorus Line still lives in the memory.
The Carousel Ballet was ambitious but worked tremendously well, and Circle of Life from The Lion King was a powerful and moving moment in the evening. The finale, There's No Business Like Show Business, brought the house down and the audience to its feet.
But unforgettably, every single member of the 3rd form was involved in two numbers each, the most tremendous achievement for the producers and directors. Highlights were 3E in full cowboy regalia, 3D's You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two, and 3A's Do Re Mi from The Sound of Music. Whatever can they do next year?
