Modern Languages Staff Profiles
Lucy Cruttenden is Head of Modern Languages and joined King’s in September 2014. During her time at Exeter University reading French, she spent a year working as a foreign language assistant in the Jura. She has a Maîtrise from Grenoble University. Apart from French she teaches Spanish and has previously taught German and Latin. Lucy is married and enjoys travelling in Europe or Africa in her holidays.
Maria Duckham is a French national who read English, Russian and Media Studies at Rennes University in Brittany. She has been living in the UK since 1996 and studied languages for her PGCE at Exeter University. She teaches French, Spanish and Latin. She enjoys reading, writing and listening to music. She is married with twins.
Lisa Wrobel, Head of German, joined King's in September 1998. She also teaches French and studied both languages at Exeter University. She lived in Germany for a year working as a foreign language assistant, and travels to Germany frequently with her family. She also enjoys regular visits to France, Belgium and Switzerland.
Karen McSwiggan studied German and Russian at Reading, Göttingen and Kiev. She came to King's to teach German in 1991, became housemistress of Meynell in 1995 and deputy head in 2003. She is married with four children.
Encarna Marzá Porcar is a Spanish national who has been living in the UK since 2009. She studied Spanish philology at Valencia University and later completed a languages degree through the Open University before doing her PGCE. When not teaching, she enjoys the cinema and reading, and going for long walks in the countryside. She loves dogs, is married and has a little boy who speaks Spanglish!
