Rugby v Bristol Grammar
A dominant second-half performance saw the 1st XV overpower a determined and positive Bristol Grammar School side. There were two tries apiece for Luke Gavin and Jack Watters, and they were joined on the scoresheet by Alex Barrow, George Lock and Olly Jones. The 2nds needed an early try by the opposition to wake them up, but we responded quickly and never looked like conceding further points. We scored nine tries in all with some entertaining attacking rugby, and everyone looked dangerous with the ball in hand. The 3rds continued their unbeaten run with a sublime display of champagne rugby. Felix Ameye scored the first of four spectacular tries, and Owen Davies scored his fifth try in five games.A disappointing first half from the Senior Colts saw the opposition take a 22-0 lead. After the interval and a few well-chosen words we performed a great deal better, scoring a well-worked try and narrowly missing out on a few more. Man of the match was George Chapman. The Bs found themselves only five points adrift with less than ten minutes to go, but ran out of steam rather. There were scores from Chris Bond and a brace of tries for man of the match Jordan Kanz.
The Junior Colts put on another excellent display to beat a powerful and determined defence. Lawrence May commanded the game from fly-half, and Rhys Davies set up a number of well-worked tries at outside-centre. The Bs started slowly to allow the visitors a 21-7 lead at half-time. However a spirited fight back saw us win the second half comfortably - tries came from Tafu Yamamoto, Jack Storer and Ted Vickery.
Despite losing three players on the morning of the match, the Under 14s put in their best performance of the term so far in beating a useful Bristol side 42-5. Forward power in the first half led to tries by Hamish Manger, Charlie Rodgers and Blaine Tottle, while in the second half there were tries for Connor Bannister (2) and Will Potter. The Bs lost several of their best players to the As, but put up a brave fight against much bigger opposition, the final scoreline hardly reflecting the quality of their performance.
