KCAP expedition to India
The King's Community Action Project is a project run by ten pupils in the 6th form at King's. We will fly out to Kerala, India, for two weeks in July 2010, and during the course of our stay, will build two houses for local families who have very little or nothing at all in the sense of accommodation.
KCAP has been running for several years now with trips going out every other summer. Its purpose is simple, yet life changing: to build houses with local builders in order to provide sheltered accommodation and a new life to those less fortunate than ourselves. The houses will be built to high standards and will be connected to mains water and electricity. We will provide basic labour such as bricklaying and cement mixing, whilst also providing work for the labourers of the area, many of whom have first-class degrees but just cannot find work. In order for us to make this happen, we need to raise approximately £9000 to cover the materials and building costs.
This project will certainly change the lives of families, whilst providing vital work for the local builders. Without the necessary funds this trip cannot go ahead, and will leave families homeless for years to come.
