Hockey v Queen's
The1st XI put on a dominant performance to win 7-1 against a strong Queen's team. Hattie Cunningham started the flurry of goals with some great individual stick work, and she was quickly followed on the scoresheet by Lucy Sharp and Hilary Moorhead. Hermione Warmington played extremely well at centre defence, and our remaining goals came from Issy Germain and again Hattie Cunningham. The 2nds fought hard against strong opposition, with Kate Webster, Ginny Nash and Holly Davis working tirelessly in defence. Unfortunately we conceded a goal in each half - players of the match were Amelia Evans and Milla Bell for their extremely high work rate.Rebecca Turner was the 3rds' player of the match for her excellence as sweeper, and great work by Kitty McIntosh and Holly Matthews resulted in a a convincing 3-0 scoreline. Katie Butler was outstanding in goal. In their first match of the season the 4ths defended strongly, allowing the midfield to push up, and this resulted in two goals in the first half scored by Naomi Smale and Anna-Sophie Oertzen. This was to remain the final score, even though Queen's upped the tempo in the second half, but we made crucial tackles and held out to the end.
The Under 15s enjoyed a hugely satisfying 2-1 win in an excellent all-round team performance. And although the Under 14s ended up on the wrong side of the final scoreline, there were many good passages of play. We couldn't quite find the final touch to put the ball in the back of the net a couple of times, but there was some strong defensive play.
