Rugby v Monmouth

In a rather lacklustre affair, the 1st XV ground out a win rather than entertain the crowd. Sam Warren scored a good try after some quick hands, and Charlie Marr scored four penalties. Poor handling spoilt a good start by the 2nds, but after a Monmouth try had galvanised the team into action, we scored three excellent tries before half-time. Powerful running by Josh Isaacs led to another try, there was an opportunist try for Chris Morris, and a scorcher from Henry Potter on the final whistle. The 3rds had a thrilling game, showing resilience and determination against a strong opposition pack. Using superior pace though on the wide 1st XV pitch, wingers Ross Chadwick and Kristian King shared the tries in an excellent 26-15 victory.

The Senior Colts won reasonably comfortably 17-0, while the Bs gave a spirited performance against a very strong unbeaten Monmouth side, who scored three tries out wide to run out deserved winners.

The Junior Colts won with an excellent team performance. Man of the match Henry Close linked well with the backs, and there were tries for Dominic Bracher (two), Joe Watts and Sam Merriweather. The Bs started with all guns blazing and could have had a try in the second minute. Unfortunately a taller, faster, stronger Monmouth side went on to dominate scrum and breakdown, though there was terrific tackling by Jordan Webb, and again Jason Gonultas proved our strongest runner.

The Under 14s went down, but this was by no means a poor performance. With confidence sky-high after their game against Millfield, the Bs were frustrated by some last-minute injuries, and Monmouth proved too strong, running with purpose against some disorganised defence.
