Rugby v Millfield

In an outstanding display of school rugby, the 1st XV fought tooth and nail in a desperately close encounter. After defending magnificently for the first 20 minutes, the backs finally cut loose, and would have scored but for a tap tackle. Another last-ditch tackle stopped us scoring again, and a further touchdown was disallowed, leaving Millfield the winners by a penalty and an unconverted try. The 2nds had a huge game of great intensity, but eventually, disappointing defence let in three tries. Henry Potter showed great pace to score from 80 metres, and Gavin Penn came close too. The 3rds started strongly, and at times played some brilliant rugby. Millfield however gradually asserted their authority, though we were rewarded with tries by Jack Graham and Lee Paisley.

The Senior Colts narrowly lost in an incredibly spirited performance against an unbeaten Millfield side. The defence was outstanding, and just two lapses in concentration cost us what was in the end a massive game. The Bs' forwards started strongly, out-rucking their opponents, but Millfield scored three breakaway tries through their speedy left-wing. Toby Barnes Yallowley countered though with a try each side of half-time, and Harvey Morris continued his excellent kicking form.

The Junior Colts came second to a very physical, direct Millfield side, full of strong runners and powerful forwards. King's played particularly well in the second half though, with an excellent scoring chance going begging, and superb defence all game from Sam Merriweather. An impressive Millfield side had to work hard for their victory against the Bs, with dogged defence and powerful forward play the hallmarks of the King's performance.

The Under 14s found themselves up against far stronger and more powerful opposition. James Walshe and Robin Danaher though made some good breaks, and both Josh Lambert and Omar Hamoui were aggressive in defence. In an entirely different game, the Bs had Millfield under pressure throughout the game, conceding just a single try through weak defence. Our own try came from a huge tackle, and the game was decided purely on the conversion kick.
