Hockey v Queen's

In a very competitive game, the 1st XI went 1-0 up after some excellent interplay between the forwards, only to go 1-3 down through some sloppy defending. A spirited fightback saw us score four goals in a row, finishing with an extremely satisfying 5-4 victory. Some attractive passing hockey saw the 2nds control the first half, with Lucie Raleigh finding the net after a fine sweeping move. Player of the match Sarah Gardener and Rebecca Potter linked well in midfield, but in the second half we looked tired and lost our structure. The 3rds had a frustrating afternoon, with every 50-50 ball going to Queen's, which meant we had a lot of defending to do. This we did though with great team spirit, Katie Butler, Hattie Clarke, Jessie Danaher and player of the match Alex Thorne keeping us within one goal of the opposition.

With the Under 15s half asleep in the first quarter, it needed a flash of individual skill from Alice Konstam to spark the team into life, and take us just 2-1 down into the interval. In the second half it was all King's - Alice Konstam put away a reverse stick finish, and we very nearly found the winner, eventually having to settle for a 2-2 draw.

The Under 14s defended well to absorb pressure in the first half, and had chances of their own to find the net. However after the interval a couple of defensive lapses gave away unnecessary goals. There was a big improvement in many areas of the team's game though, and if we continue to work hard in training, a big win is on its way. Captain Kate Webster was fearless in defence.
