Hockey v Blundell's
In a physical and bruising encounter, the 1st XI showed great courage and determination, losing Hattie Cunningham early on, and with both Mel Palmer and Heather McKenzie carrying injuries. This was one of Blundell's narrowest victory margins of the season, which says much for the character of our girls. The 2nds had a very competitive match, creating several chances, but just failing to put the ball in the net. Man of the match Harriet Butterfield battled throughout the game in defence, making some excellent tackles, and Charlotte Davidson made several excellent saves. The 3rds found themselves two goals down in five minutes, but battled back, creating plenty of chances. Freya Broughton showed great skill as centre-forward, Alex Taylor was again strong in defence, but the outstanding work-rate of player of the match Danni Taylor made the biggest impression. The 4ths fought hard, and played with great team spirit, but couldn't quite break down a strong Blundell's side.
The Under 15s started brightly, but Blundell's then made their possession count. In the second half there was stout defending by Harriet Johnstone, and both Hollie and Milla Bell, and player of the match goes to Virginia Nash and Olivia Taylor for their tireless running, pressurising the Blundell's midfield. The Bs enjoyed an excellent win, with Lucinda Smyth stopping the ball well in midfield and returning it to the forwards. Confident passing all the way from Izzy Arliss in defence led to Chloe Simpson sweeping the ball into the net to score the winner just before half-time.
The Under 14s played their best hockey of the season, winning lots of 50/50 balls, with Victoria Clark composed in midfield and setting up several good attacking moves. Michelle Pearn worked tirelessly at left midfield, and Megan Scott was exceptional in goal. The Bs had a fantastic game, almost scoring early in the first half through Lara Rodgers. Adelaide Green kept Blundell's at bay in goal, and there was great hockey from Annabel Lumley and Charlotte Palmer.
